Bosnia & Herzegovina

Bosnia & Herzegovina. Travel information

Being a predominantly mountainous country Bosnia-Herzegovina provides some of the best-value ski vacations in Europe. The central Bosnian *Dinaric Alps (map) are favored by hikers and mountaineers, containing both Mediterranean and Alpine climates. Whitewater rafting is somewhat of a national pastime.

*Mostar (map), the “City on Neretva” or “City of Sunshine”; the location of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Stari most (map) and old-town Mostar (map). The *Lower Tara (map) river canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe. *Sutjeska National Park (map), featuring the ancient forest of Perućica and the Sutjeska river canyon. *Tešanj (map), one of Bosnia’s oldest known cities. *Teslic (map) — а health spa resort with the biggest tourist capacity in the country.

Sarajevo Airport is in the suburb of Butmir and is relatively close to the city centre (best bet is to take a taxi to the tram terminus at Ilidža and board the tram).
