The northernmost and smallest of the Baltic states, the country has charming old towns and heritage back to the Hanseatic League. Tallinn’s medieval old town was built by the Germans in Middle Ages and is in magnificent condition, and it rates as one of Europe’s best medieval old towns.
Tartu (map) – and oldest city, museum-rich and hanseatic city on the banks of the Emajõgi River. Pärnu (map) – the summer capital of Estonia, popular for its balneo-therapy complexes and spa centres, surrounded by numerous beaches. Viljandi (map) – beautiful old town and overwhelming and picturesque park around the old castle.
Estonia has a comprehensive bus network all over the country. Nearly every city can be accessed by a direct bus from Tallinn or Tartu. All connections are available online through Tpilet.ee (for long distance connections) and Peatus.ee (for short distances and local connections).
